This project will investigate the challenges and opportunities in scaling social and affordable housing delivery. By identifying the potentials for improving construction practices, overcoming supply chain hurdles, and enhancing the stakeholders’ decision making, strategic recommendations will be developed to facilitate cost-effective delivery of social housing project at scale. Outcomes will offer actionable insights for the construction industry and government at state and national levels leading to effective use of billions of dollars of investment to deliver tens of thousands of social housing dwellings in a timely manner.

Objectives

The project aims to investigate the challenges and opportunities in the implementation of scalable delivery of social housing projects. The project’s aim will be achieved through these objectives:

  1. Identify key barriers to scalability in delivery of social housing projects: Examine the major challenges that hinder the scalable delivery of social housing projects, focusing specifically on supply chain and construction processes.
  2. Explore the existing innovative construction processes with potential scalability: Assess the potential of innovative construction techniques and technologies to enhance the scalability and cost-effectiveness within social housing projects.
  3. Develop strategic recommendations for construction process improvements considering environmental sustainability: Formulate strategies and recommendations for stakeholders in the construction industry, government, and community organisations to overcome scalability challenges in construction processes and capitalise on opportunities to deliver social housing projects more efficiently, effectively, and sustainably.
