Fostering Global Collaboration in Sustainability Research: Gothenburg, Sweden

In April 2025, the vibrant academic hub of Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, hosted an inspiring knowledge exchange session. Dr. Atiq Zaman, from Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute, and Prof. Dr. Keith Hampson, CEO of the Sustainable Built Environment National Research Centre (SBEnrc), Australia, shared their expertise with esteemed colleagues and researchers.

The session was inaugurated by Prof. Henriette Söderberg, Head of Chalmers’ Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering. Prof. Keith Hampson provided an insightful overview of SBEnrc’s impactful work and its collaboration with Curtin University. Dr. Atiq Zaman presented his cutting-edge research on circular economy and zero-waste initiatives, supported by SBEnrc, NESP2’s Sustainable Communities and Waste Hub, and UNCTAD.

Chalmers researchers, led by Mattias Roupé, showcased their innovative projects, highlighting the legacy of Prof. Greg Morrison’s timber research. Discussions centered on fostering collaborative research between Australia and Sweden, leveraging the strengths of Curtin University, Chalmers University, and SBEnrc partners.

This session exemplified the power of international collaboration in advancing sustainability research, paving the way for impactful solutions in the built environment.
